Alkagesta attended Miller’s DayWithMiller programme and Annual Cocktail Event in Paris on 8 October, according to an account published by the trading company. The gathering attracted more than 400 people from the commodity trade finance and risk sectors, with participants drawn from trading businesses, banks, investment funds, development finance institutions, insurers and reinsurers.

The daytime programme centred on workshops arranged by Miller’s Credit, Surety and Political Risk team. Alkagesta said industry speakers addressed trade credit, political risk and the management of commodity-related exposures. Discussion covered the financial structures and insurance instruments used to support commodity trading, including credit and surety arrangements, marine cargo insurance and political risk cover. The programme brought these subjects together within a single workshop agenda focused on risk and finance.

According to Alkagesta’s account, the sessions also offered participants a setting to discuss how major institutions handle risk management and compliance in an operating environment the company described as increasingly complex. The focus was on the frameworks supporting trading activity and the approaches taken by institutions involved in financing and insuring it. An evening cocktail reception followed the workshops, allowing attendees to continue discussions and develop relationships across the commodity finance and insurance community.

Alkagesta linked its participation to its own priorities for risk management, governance and relationships with insurance providers. The company presented attendance at gatherings of this kind as a way to strengthen its risk framework, deepen connections with insurers and reinsurers, and communicate the compliance standards it says support its international trading business.

The company said its operations cover petroleum products, biofuels, fertilisers and steel in approximately 48 countries. It described its network of trade finance, risk and insurance counterparties as central to carrying out those trading activities responsibly, placing the Paris event within that broader partnership network.
